Rawalpindi: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Rawalpindi Circle has arrested 61 suspects during a raid on an alleged illegal call center in the Commercial Market area of Satellite Town.
According to officials, the NCCIA received confidential information that an illegal call center was operating in the area and allegedly targeting foreign citizens under the pretext of debt recovery.
The suspects were allegedly posing as recovery agents and threatening and harassing overseas individuals to obtain money, according to the initial investigation.
During the raid, authorities arrested 61 suspects and recovered 71 mobile phones and 155 laptops from their possession. The digital devices and data have been taken into custody for forensic examination.
A case has been registered against the suspects, while further investigation and technical analysis are underway.
NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said illegal call centers pose a serious threat to Pakistan’s reputation and public trust. He said action against illegal call centers and those involved in cyber fraud would continue without discrimination.
