ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s textile imports rose sharply in June 2026, increasing 36.06% month-on-month to Rs180.47 billion as purchases of raw cotton recorded the strongest growth, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The higher textile import bill reflects increased demand for industrial inputs used by the country’s textile and garments sector. Imports had stood at Rs132.61 billion in May 2026.
In dollar terms, textile imports increased 37.11% to $647.44 million in June from $472.22 million a month earlier, the PBS data showed.
Compared with June 2025, the import bill rose 2.14% from Rs176.69 billion. In dollar terms, imports were 3.70% higher than the $624.34 million recorded in the same month last year.
Raw Cotton Records Strongest Monthly Increase
Raw cotton was the main driver of the increase, with Pakistan importing 132,321 metric tonnes worth Rs61.38 billion, or $220.18 million, during June.
The quantity of raw cotton imports increased 71.03% compared with May. Their value rose 68.66% in rupee terms and 68.84% in dollar terms.
Compared with June 2025, raw cotton import volumes were 11.69% higher. However, their value declined 2.30% in rupee terms and 0.81% in dollars.
Synthetic Fibre And Yarn Imports Rise
Pakistan imported 48,547 metric tonnes of synthetic fibre valued at Rs19.35 billion, or $69.40 million, in June.
The imported quantity was 22.56% higher than in May, while its value increased 21.23% in rupees and 21.38% in dollars.
On a year-on-year basis, synthetic fibre imports rose 1.96% in quantity, 10.86% in rupee value and 12.55% in dollar value.
Imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn reached 42,498 metric tonnes, costing Rs24.53 billion, or $88 million.
Compared with May, the quantity increased 12.05%, while the value rose 14.16% in rupee terms and 14.38% in dollars.
The category also posted year-on-year growth, with imports rising 3.46% in quantity, 18.83% in rupee value and 20.65% in dollar value.
Worn Clothing Imports Post Strong Annual Growth
Worn clothing recorded the highest year-on-year growth among the listed textile categories.
Imports reached 120,758 metric tonnes worth Rs16.35 billion, or $58.67 million, in June.
Compared with May, the quantity increased 22.09%, while the rupee and dollar values rose 25.15% and 28.22%, respectively.
On an annual basis, worn clothing imports were up 33.60% in quantity, 43.36% in rupee value and 45.55% in dollar value.
Imports categorised as other textile items totalled Rs58.87 billion, or $211.19 million, during June.
These imports increased 28.71% in rupee terms and 30.41% in dollar terms compared with May. However, they remained 8.54% lower in rupees and 7.15% lower in dollars than in June 2025.
