KASUR: The Punjab government has launched a development package worth more than Rs5 billion for Phool Nagar, with projects covering sewerage, drainage, roads, public parks, street lighting and renewable energy infrastructure.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan formally inaugurated the projects in Phool Nagar, Tehsil Pattoki, under the Chief Minister Punjab Development Programme.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the minister said the package was aimed at improving civic services and resolving long-standing infrastructure problems faced by residents.

He said the projects reflected Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s policy of extending development initiatives beyond major cities and ensuring that residents of smaller towns also receive modern public facilities.

According to the provincial minister, the package includes the construction of a modern sewerage network, stormwater drainage infrastructure, a wastewater treatment plant and the rehabilitation of disposal stations.

The programme also covers the construction and rehabilitation of roads and streets, improvement of public parks and green belts, installation of streetlights and the solarisation of selected public infrastructure.

Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said the improved drainage system would help Phool Nagar respond more effectively to flooding and water accumulation during the monsoon season.

He added that the planned wastewater treatment and sewerage projects would improve sanitation, reduce environmental risks and provide more sustainable civic facilities to residents.

The development of parks, green belts and solar-powered streetlights would also improve the city’s appearance, reduce energy costs and support environmental protection, he said.

The minister described the package as a major step towards the long-term development of Phool Nagar and said the projects would improve mobility, public health and the overall quality of life.

During his speech, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan also criticised recent remarks attributed to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the Pakistan Armed Forces.

He called on the JUI-F leader to withdraw the remarks and apologise to the nation.

“The Pakistan Armed Forces are a symbol of the country’s security, sovereignty and defence, and the entire nation stands firmly with them,” the minister said.

The political remarks were made during a public gathering held alongside the inauguration ceremony.

Local elected representatives, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders, community elders and residents attended the event.

Participants welcomed the announcement and expressed hope that the timely completion of the projects would improve sanitation, transport links, public spaces and municipal services across Phool Nagar.

The Punjab government did not immediately provide a project-by-project completion timeline. The package’s impact will largely depend on timely execution, quality control and continued monitoring by the relevant provincial and local authorities.
