RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Food Department has launched an intensified monitoring campaign across Rawalpindi, Taxila, and Wah Cantt to ensure the uninterrupted availability of wheat flour at officially notified prices following reports of an alleged artificial shortage.

The department said there is no shortage of wheat or flour in the district and that sufficient stocks are available to meet public demand. The operation aims to prevent hoarding, black marketing, and profiteering while ensuring a stable supply of the essential commodity.

Inspections Increased to Prevent Hoarding

Food Department teams have stepped up inspections of flour mills, wholesale markets, and retail outlets after receiving complaints about possible hoarding and attempts to create artificial price increases.

Officials said the campaign is focused on maintaining smooth transportation and distribution of flour from mills to markets to avoid any disruption in supply.

Authorities Reassure Public

District Food Controller Azhar Abbas said the department is utilizing all available resources to maintain an efficient supply chain and protect consumers from exploitation.

“There is no shortage of flour in Rawalpindi, Taxila, or Wah. The Food Department is ensuring an uninterrupted supply at officially notified rates while maintaining strict vigilance against hoarding, black marketing, and artificial price hikes,” he said.

Azhar Abbas warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found creating an artificial shortage or selling flour above government-approved prices.

Inspection teams have been directed to continue field monitoring and initiate proceedings under the relevant laws against violators.

The Food Department also urged citizens to purchase flour only at officially notified prices and report any cases of overcharging, hoarding, or supply disruptions so that immediate action can be taken.

Officials said the enforcement drive has helped restore the normal availability of flour across markets in Rawalpindi, Taxila, and Wah, easing concerns about potential supply disruptions.
