LAHORE, April 22, 2026 — Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar chaired a high-level meeting to review ongoing and new development projects of the energy department, directing officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to educational institutions across the province.
The meeting, attended by Ajmal Bhatti and other senior officials, focused on progress under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), including solarisation initiatives and infrastructure upgrades. The directive on uninterrupted supply highlights concerns over energy reliability in schools and colleges.
Officials briefed the minister on multiple projects, including the solarisation of public sector buildings and a plan to shift water supply tube wells in Okara district to solar energy. The minister instructed that the tube well solarisation project must be completed by June.
Project updates and timelines
The meeting was informed that construction of 10 Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospitals is expected to be completed within the current year, while development schemes for 44 new colleges are set to begin.
Progress on solar installations at key government facilities, including the Governor House, was also reviewed, with officials indicating completion is likely within weeks. Updates were also shared on solarisation of session courts and other public buildings.
Monitoring and alternative energy focus
Officials said a remote monitoring system is being introduced to improve oversight of energy projects. The meeting was also briefed on the upcoming inauguration of a biogas plant in Gujjar Colony.
The minister directed that backup power systems should be installed alongside solar solutions in educational institutions to ensure consistent electricity supply.
Emphasis on timelines and transparency
Khokhar stressed that all development projects must be completed on schedule, warning that delays would not be tolerated. He also directed officials to maintain transparency and quality standards in solarisation projects.
Officials said the government is prioritising alternative energy initiatives and measures to improve energy efficiency as part of broader efforts to support public welfare and reduce reliance on conventional power sources.
