ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Stock Exchange staged a strong rebound on Tuesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 2,592.79 points, or 1.56 per cent, to close at 168,460.11.
The index had settled at 165,867.32 points in the previous session.
Trading activity remained active, with 432.015 million shares changing hands in the ready market, compared with 441.898 million shares a day earlier.
The value of shares traded rose to Rs20.139 billion from Rs15.709 billion in the previous session, indicating stronger participation despite a slight decline in overall volume.
Market capitalisation also increased, reaching Rs18.712 trillion from Rs18.464 trillion.
Of the 496 companies traded in the ready market, 314 closed higher, 147 declined and 35 remained unchanged, reflecting broad-based buying across the market.
Cnergyico PK led the volume chart with 55.062 million shares, followed by Pakistan Refinery with 28.175 million shares and WorldCall Telecom with 25.445 million shares.
Among the major gainers, Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited rose by Rs223.98 to close at Rs25,239.98, while PIA Holding Company Limited-B gained Rs177.50 to settle at Rs15,177.50.
On the downside, S.S. Oil Mills Limited fell by Rs47.68 to Rs430.58, while Hoechst Pakistan Limited lost Rs46.81 to close at Rs3,923.29.
Activity in the futures market also strengthened, with turnover rising to 125.121 million shares worth Rs7.168 billion, compared with 91.217 million shares valued at Rs4.552 billion in the previous session.
Out of 296 companies traded in the futures market, 252 advanced and 44 declined.
