SUJAWAL: A police constable was martyred and another sustained injuries during an exchange of fire with armed suspects near Majeed Otho village within the jurisdiction of Chuhar Jamali Police Station in Sujawal district on Friday, police said.
The encounter began after police acted on intelligence about the presence of armed suspects in the area. Authorities have launched a search operation, saying efforts are underway to apprehend those involved.
Police Responded to Intelligence
According to a spokesperson for the Sujawal Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office, police received information about armed individuals allegedly present in Majeed Otho village.
A police team was dispatched to the location, where an exchange of gunfire took place. During the operation, Constables Wajid Somro and Ghulam Mustafa Chawro were critically injured.
The injured officers were initially taken to the Basic Health Unit in Chuhar Jamali before being shifted to Civil Hospital Thatta for further treatment.
Constable Succumbs to Injuries
Police said Constable Wajid Somro later succumbed to his injuries at Civil Hospital Thatta, while Ghulam Mustafa Chawro remains under medical care. Officials described his condition as stable.
Senior Superintendent of Police Alina Rajpar visited the hospital following the incident, expressed condolences over the constable’s death, and met the injured officer.
Search Operation Underway
Speaking after the incident, SSP Rajpar said the sacrifice of the fallen constable would not go in vain and confirmed that a police operation was continuing against the suspects.
She said security personnel had cordoned off the village as part of efforts to locate and arrest those responsible.
After completing medico-legal formalities, the body of Constable Wajid Somro was transported to his ancestral village, Imam Bux Somro near Daro town, where he was laid to rest.
