Police Arrest Suspect in Sikh Couple Murder Case in Mardan Within 24 Hours

MARDAN: Police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of a Sikh couple in Babu Mohallah within 24 hours of the incident, marking a major breakthrough in the case, officials said.

District Police Officer (DPO) Mardan Masood Ahmad, addressing a press conference, said the arrest was made using modern scientific methods, technical evidence, and professional investigative techniques.

The case was registered on the complaint of Amarjeet Lal, son of Jeevan Lal, a resident of Gaju Khan Shaheen Colony No. 2. The victims were identified as Jagannath, son of Hari Ram, and his wife Asawanti, residents of Babu Mohallah, Mardan.

Suspect identified and investigation underway

Police identified the arrested suspect as Sher Shah, son of Nadir Shah, originally from Amazogarhi and currently residing in Iran Abad.

DPO Masood Ahmad said a joint investigation team comprising senior officials and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has so far found no evidence linking the suspect to any banned organisation or terrorist group.

He added that the suspect has shared his initial statement during interrogation, which is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation to determine the motive and establish full facts of the case.

The press briefing was also attended by SP Investigation Maria Mustafa, SP City Hakam Khan, ASP City, and SHO Hoti Police Station.

Authorities said further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.
