ISLAMABAD, Jul 12: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar’s former amir, and conveyed condolences to the Qatari leadership, royal family and people.
In a message posted on X, the prime minister offered condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, as well as in his personal capacity, to Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and members of the Al Thani family.
Shehbaz Sharif described the late Father Amir as a distinguished leader and statesman whose vision and public service helped transform Qatar into a modern, prosperous and internationally respected country.
He said Sheikh Hamad’s contributions to Qatar’s development, public welfare, regional peace and international cooperation would be remembered for generations.
The prime minister said Pakistan stood in solidarity with Qatar during the period of mourning and would continue to cherish Sheikh Hamad’s warmth, kindness and affection for Pakistan.
He also recalled the former Qatari ruler’s visits to Pakistan and the close relationship he maintained with the country.
Shehbaz Sharif prayed for the departed leader to be granted the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdaus and asked Allah Almighty to give the Qatari royal family and people strength and patience to bear the loss.
Sheikh Hamad ruled Qatar from 1995 until 2013, when he handed power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. His tenure was associated with Qatar’s rapid economic development and growing international influence.
