ISLAMABAD, Feb 27, 2026: Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu said Pakistan is a responsible country that desires “peace with honour” while addressing a ceremony at Air Headquarters to mark the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort.
The Air Chief said the 2019 operation was launched after what he described as a challenge to Pakistan’s sovereignty, adding that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) carried out a calibrated response to re-establish deterrence. The anniversary is observed annually by the PAF to commemorate the aerial engagement that followed heightened tensions between Pakistan and India in February 2019.
In his address, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu referred to the evolving global and regional security environment and said the PAF had initiated a comprehensive modernisation and indigenisation programme beginning in March 2021.
