Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Discuss Major Infrastructure Opportunities at PIMEC 2025

KARACHI: Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in transport, logistics, and infrastructure development during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC 2025).

Strategic Dialogue Between Ministers

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan met with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, Engineer Saleh Bin Nasser Aljasser, to discuss strategic opportunities for collaboration across key sectors. The meeting underscored both nations’ shared interest in leveraging infrastructure as a driver of regional connectivity and economic growth.

Pakistan’s Infrastructure Projects Open for Investment

Minister Abdul Aleem Khan briefed his Saudi counterpart on Pakistan’s expanding road network and the government’s focus on modernizing transport corridors. He highlighted several major infrastructure projects open for foreign investment, including the M-6 Motorway (Sukkur–Hyderabad), M-10 Motorway (Hyderabad–Karachi Port), M-13 Motorway (Kharian–Rawalpindi), and the Mansehra–Naran–Jalkhad–Chilas (MNJC) Road — the latter noted for its tourism potential and commercial viability.

Efficient Toll System and Strategic Location Highlighted

“Our road infrastructure is vibrant and self-sustaining, supported by an efficient toll system that ensures long-term maintenance and development,” said Minister Khan. He emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic location and infrastructure ambitions offer attractive opportunities for Saudi investors.

Saudi Interest in Communications and Logistics

The Saudi Minister expressed keen interest in Pakistan’s communications sector and extended an invitation to Minister Khan to visit the Kingdom in the near future. He also offered Saudi collaboration in technology, road safety, and logistics projects, reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to deepening ties with Pakistan.

Broader Framework for Multi-Sectoral Cooperation

Minister Khan noted that the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement (SMDA) between the two countries has laid a strong foundation for multi-sectoral cooperation, including infrastructure, trade, and maritime development. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia in the upcoming International Maritime Organization (IMO) elections, further strengthening diplomatic goodwill.

Shared Vision for Regional Progress

Engineer Saleh Bin Nasser Aljasser praised Pakistan’s development initiatives and expressed gratitude for the country’s continued support. Both sides agreed to pursue frequent engagements and joint ventures that align with their shared vision for regional progress.
