ISTANBUL: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are set to hold the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Istanbul on Monday.
The meeting marks the first formal engagement under the trilateral defence framework and is expected to focus on strengthening strategic, political and defence cooperation among the three countries.
Ahead of the meeting, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif met Turkish National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler in Istanbul.
Türkiye’s Chief of General Staff, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, also attended the meeting.
During the talks, Khawaja Asif and the Turkish leadership agreed on the need to expand joint defence cooperation and strengthen coordination in response to evolving regional security challenges.
The inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee will bring together senior political and military officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
According to Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry, the committee was established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by the three countries and is intended to deepen strategic and defence coordination.
The Istanbul meeting is expected to review regional and international security issues, defence capabilities and broader cooperation among the three countries.
