ISLAMABAD: The government has begun implementing a regulatory reform programme aimed at removing unnecessary business barriers, simplifying procedures and improving Pakistan’s investment climate, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said on Friday.

Speaking during a meeting with an Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegation, Haroon said the Regulatory Guillotine Reform Programme would review and eliminate outdated or unnecessary requirements affecting businesses and investors.

The delegation was led by ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, while Export Processing Zones Authority Chairman Freedoon Akram Sheikh and officials from the Ministry of Industries and Production also attended the meeting.

Haroon said improving the ease of doing business remained a government priority and that the private sector would play a central role in industrial expansion, investment and employment generation.

He said the reform programme was intended to create a simpler, more transparent regulatory system by reducing procedural delays and compliance requirements that do not serve a clear public purpose.

The government has linked the initiative with its proposed National Industrial Policy, which is aimed at strengthening domestic industries, raising productivity and promoting investment-led economic growth.

Haroon said businesses and investors required a predictable regulatory environment to make long-term decisions and expand industrial activity.

“We are committed to creating a business environment that is simple, transparent and conducive to investment and industrial expansion,” he said.

ICCI Plans Türkiye Trade Mission

The ICCI delegation also briefed the government on an upcoming business visit to Türkiye aimed at identifying opportunities for trade, investment and commercial partnerships between companies from the two countries.

Separate reporting on the meeting said ICCI plans to hold a Pakistan-Türkiye Business Opportunity Conference in Istanbul on August 13, 2026, with government support.

The delegation said closer coordination between public institutions and the business community would be needed to address barriers facing industry and improve Pakistan’s competitiveness.

Both sides agreed to maintain consultations on policies affecting industrialisation, exports, investment and job creation.

The meeting formed part of a broader government effort to reduce the cost and complexity of doing business while encouraging private-sector participation in economic development.
