Islamabad, Feb 8, 2026 — Admiral Naveed Ashraf undertook an official visit to Malaysia this week, holding meetings with the leadership of the Royal Malaysian Navy as part of Pakistan Navy’s efforts to deepen bilateral naval cooperation and support regional maritime security.
According to an official statement issued by the Pakistan Navy, the visit began at Royal Malaysian Navy Headquarters, where Admiral Naveed Ashraf was received by his Malaysian counterpart, Admiral Tan Sri (Dr.) Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, and was accorded a guard of honour. Discussions focused on shared maritime challenges and the evolving security environment in the region.
Focus on operational cooperation and maritime security
During the meetings, both sides reviewed existing areas of cooperation and explored opportunities to enhance operational coordination, capacity building, and joint responses to emerging maritime security threats. Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted Pakistan Navy’s role in promoting stability at sea through regular Regional Maritime Security Patrols and its participation in the Combined Maritime Forces, a multinational naval partnership.
The exchange underscored the importance of sustained engagement between regional navies as maritime trade routes grow in strategic and economic significance, the statement said.
Engagement with Malaysia’s hydrographic authorities
As part of the visit, the Chief of the Naval Staff also toured Malaysia’s National Hydrographic Centre, where he was briefed on its technical capabilities and work related to maritime safety and navigation. He emphasized the role of hydrography in effective naval operations and called for closer collaboration between Malaysia’s centre and Pakistan’s National Hydrographic Office, particularly in training, data sharing, and professional exchanges.
Officials said the visit reflects the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Malaysia and signals continued efforts by both navies to adapt their cooperation to contemporary maritime requirements.
