RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and Kuwait signed a new Protocol Agreement-2026 on Thursday to expand bilateral military cooperation, including training, capacity building and border management, during a meeting between Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and a high-level Kuwaiti delegation.
The delegation was led by Kuwait’s Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah and included Lieutenant General Khalid Darj Saad Al-Shriaan, Chief of General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence, the meeting focused on bilateral defence relations, security cooperation and ways to further strengthen military ties between the two countries.
The newly signed protocol builds on the Defence Cooperation Agreement-2023 and broadens the framework for cooperation between the armed forces of Pakistan and Kuwait.
Under the agreement, Pakistan’s armed forces will provide assistance to their Kuwaiti counterparts in a range of areas, including training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed fields of defence cooperation.
Both sides also discussed matters of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the defence partnership.
The Ministry of Defence said the agreement reflected the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Kuwait and the two countries’ shared interest in regional security and stability.
Pakistan and Kuwait also agreed to continue expanding institutional and military-level engagement as part of efforts to deepen bilateral defence ties.
