ISLAMABAD, July 21: Pakistan and Iran on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in education, science, research and innovation during a meeting between Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training and Iran’s Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Hossein Simaei Sarraf.
The meeting, held during the Iranian minister’s official visit to Pakistan, reviewed progress in academic cooperation and explored new opportunities to deepen collaboration in higher education, research and technological development.
The Pakistani minister welcomed the Iranian delegation and highlighted the longstanding ties between the two neighbouring countries, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to expanding institutional partnerships for the benefit of students, researchers and academic institutions.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the implementation of existing memoranda of understanding between higher education institutions of the two countries, including the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), and encouraged similar collaborations among other universities and research organisations.
The two ministers discussed expanding cooperation in teacher education, curriculum development, digital learning, artificial intelligence, educational technology, technical and vocational education and training, faculty exchanges, student mobility and joint research initiatives.
They also stressed the need to promote collaborative research projects, academic conferences, innovation partnerships and scholarship opportunities to strengthen academic linkages and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
The federal minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to implementing education-related decisions taken under the Pakistan-Iran Joint Commission and translating the shared vision of both countries into practical outcomes.
He said sustained institutional engagement would help address common educational challenges while advancing scientific and technological development.
Dr. Hossein Simaei Sarraf appreciated the hospitality extended by the Government of Pakistan and expressed confidence that stronger collaboration between educational and scientific institutions would further deepen bilateral relations and contribute to regional development through research and innovation.
The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and explore additional avenues for cooperation aimed at promoting academic excellence, strengthening people-to-people contacts and supporting sustainable development through education, science and research.
