Pakistan Hockey Team Celebrates Independence Day

LAHORE: Pakistan’s national hockey team joined the Independence Day celebrations with patriotic spirit while preparing for the upcoming FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium.

A video shared from the team’s journey showed the players singing patriotic songs while travelling by bus, expressing their enthusiasm for Pakistan’s Independence Day.

The national side is currently in the Netherlands for the World Cup, which begins on August 15 and runs through August 30. The tournament is being jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands.

Pakistan has been drawn in Pool D alongside England, India and Wales. The Green Shirts are scheduled to begin their campaign against England on August 15, followed by a match against Wales on August 17. Their much-anticipated clash against traditional rivals India is scheduled for August 19.

The 2026 tournament features 16 teams divided into four opening pools, with a revised competition format that includes a second group stage before the knockout rounds.

For Pakistan, the World Cup marks an important return to the global stage after missing the previous edition. The team will be hoping to combine its preparations with the patriotic spirit surrounding Independence Day as it begins its campaign in Europe.
