ISLAMABAD: The federal government has launched a digital life skills education pilot for Grade IV students in 20 schools across Islamabad, aiming to combine classroom learning with practical skills such as critical thinking, communication, problem-solving and informed decision-making.
The initiative was introduced by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training through its National Curriculum Council Wing, in collaboration with UNFPA Pakistan and ACT International.
The launch ceremony was held at Islamabad College for Boys, G-6/3, where senior government officials, education experts, development partners, school administrators and teachers attended the event.
Federal Education Secretary Nadeem Mahbub, who attended as chief guest, said the government remained committed to modernising Pakistan’s education system through technology and innovation.
He said quality education should extend beyond academic performance and help children develop the practical skills needed to navigate modern social, educational and professional challenges.
According to officials, the Grade IV Digital Life Skills-Based Education Learning Management System offers an interactive, age-appropriate and gender-sensitive curriculum for students, while also providing teachers with digital classroom resources.
The three-month pilot will be implemented in 20 schools in Islamabad Capital Territory. Eight of the participating schools fall under the Federal Directorate of Education, while 12 are regulated by the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority.
The programme will assess how effectively the digital platform supports student learning and classroom instruction. Its findings are expected to guide future policy decisions and determine whether the initiative should be expanded to additional grades and schools across Pakistan.
UNFPA Pakistan Deputy Representative Dr Gulnara Kadyrkulova said life skills education could help children build confidence, empathy, communication abilities and respect for diversity.
She said the digital platform was designed to support inclusive and learner-centred education while improving access to quality resources for both students and teachers.
Officials said the pilot reflects a broader effort by the government and its development partners to make school education more responsive to the demands of the 21st century.
The initiative also marks a step towards wider digital integration in public and private school systems, particularly at the primary level, where students are being introduced to structured life skills education at an early stage.
