The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing major changes to the Test team management following the national side’s poor performance against England, with Mike Hesson set to take charge as head coach for the third Test at Edgbaston, according to sources.
A meeting chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in London reportedly decided on several changes. Hesson, who is already serving as Pakistan’s white-ball head coach, is expected to oversee the Test side for the upcoming match.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, Umar Gul Facing Exit
According to sources, current Test head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul are likely to be removed from their positions after the team returns from England.
Hesson could subsequently be appointed as the permanent head coach of the Test team, while Ashley Noffke is being considered as a possible replacement for Gul as bowling coach.
The proposed changes come after Pakistan’s disappointing results on the England tour, including a heavy defeat at Lord’s.
Three Players Recalled to Pakistan
The PCB has also decided to send Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha back to Pakistan immediately, according to the report.
Under Sarfaraz’s coaching, Pakistan’s Test team played six matches, winning only one and losing five. The run included a 2-0 away-series whitewash against Bangladesh.
The latest decisions indicate a significant restructuring of Pakistan’s Test setup as the team seeks to improve its performance in the ongoing England series.
