Pakistan began their hockey Test series against South Korea with a convincing 3-1 victory in the opening match, delivering an encouraging performance ahead of upcoming international competitions.
The first Test was played in Islamabad, where the hosts outplayed South Korea to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Sufyan Khan Stars With Two Goals
Pakistan’s Sufyan Khan scored twice to lead the home side, while newly appointed captain Abu Bakar Mahmood added the third goal.
South Korea managed one goal, but Pakistan maintained control for most of the match to secure the win.
Second Test Scheduled for August 1
The two teams will meet again in the second Test on August 1, with Pakistan aiming to clinch the series.
The series forms part of Pakistan’s preparations for upcoming international tournaments, including the Hockey World Cup.
Abu Bakar Mahmood Leads National Side
The victory comes shortly after the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) appointed Abu Bakar Mahmood as the new captain of the national team ahead of the World Cup.
Former captain Imad Butt remains part of the national squad and will continue to contribute as a senior player, according to the PHF.
The federation said the leadership change was made as part of its strategy to strengthen the team’s preparations for future international competitions.
