Telecom operators engage manufacturers as Samsung expected to release update within weeks

Islamabad — April 03, 2026: Pakistan’s anticipated rollout of 5G services has encountered fresh delays despite the successful completion of the spectrum auction, as key software updates required to enable the technology on mobile devices remain pending.

According to sources, Apple has yet to release the necessary software patch that would allow existing iPhone models in Pakistan to support 5G connectivity. The delay has effectively prevented a significant segment of users from accessing next-generation mobile services.

Industry officials say Samsung is expected to release its 5G compatibility update within the next two to three weeks, offering some progress toward resolving the issue.

Telecom operators have intensified coordination with global smartphone manufacturers to expedite the rollout process. Discussions at the state level with Apple are also being considered to address the delay and ensure timely software support.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is actively engaging with stakeholders, including device manufacturers and service providers, to facilitate a smooth and nationwide 5G launch.

Experts note that without the required software updates, most existing smartphones will remain incompatible with 5G networks, potentially slowing down adoption and limiting the immediate impact of the technology.

The delay highlights the complex interplay between infrastructure readiness and device compatibility, both of which are critical for the successful deployment of 5G services in Pakistan.
