SWAT: Commissioner Malakand Division Abid Wazir on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting in Saidu Sharif, Swat to review rescue and relief activities following the recent floods and heavy rains.
Officials briefed the meeting that Rescue 1122 carried out 4,426 operations across the division, rescuing 4,067 people, recovering 353 bodies, and providing medical aid to 1,031 injured persons.
The meeting was attended by Director General Rescue Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Tayyab Abdullah, along with the Director Rescue North Region, CEO WSSC Swat, Superintending Engineers of Public Health and Irrigation Departments, representatives of the Regional Police Office Malakand, Rescue 1122 Swat, USDP, Civil Defence, Health Department, and other concerned officials.
Deputy Commissioners and District Police Officers of all districts participated via video link.
Officials informed that Rescue 1122 is currently operating through 37 stations with 1,421 personnel, 278 emergency vehicles, and 417 volunteers across Malakand Division, added, that temporary water rescue points were also established on the special directives of the DG Rescue to improve response time,”they stated.
They further said that a total of 5,462 flood emergency medical camps were set up in Buner and Shangla districts.
The commissioner and the DG Rescue praised the role of the district administration, rescue teams, police, volunteers, and other departments during the crisis.
Commissioner Abid Wazir lauded the DG Rescue for enhancing operational capacity and directed all Deputy Commissioners to strengthen coordination among departments to deal with any future emergencies, including potential GLOF incidents.
He further instructed the installation of early warning systems across all districts of the division.
