NUST hosts university leaders under HEC-NAHE leadership programme

ISLAMABAD: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) hosted a delegation of senior academic leaders from public-sector universities as part of a leadership development programme organised by the Higher Education Commission’s National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE).

The delegation included vice chancellors, pro-vice chancellors, senior deans and statutory heads from universities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Rawalpindi region.

The visiting academics were received by NUST Pro-Rector Academics Dr Osman Hasan and Chief of Finance and Business Development Rao Sabir Ali Khan.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on NUST’s academic structure, research and innovation ecosystem, and major institutional initiatives. Participants also visited the National Science and Technology Park and the School of Interdisciplinary Engineering and Sciences, where they were given an overview of the university’s approach to integrating teaching, research, innovation and industry engagement.

The visit concluded with an interactive session with Rector NUST Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif, who discussed the changing role of universities in addressing national challenges through knowledge, innovation and institutional leadership.

He said higher education institutions must go beyond providing quality education and play a broader role in contributing to society and developing a strong sense of responsibility among students towards the country.

Dr Zahid also highlighted NUST’s focus on governance, policy development, consultative decision-making and long-term strategic planning as key elements of institutional growth.

The session included an exchange of views between the rector and visiting university leaders on opportunities for greater cooperation across Pakistan’s higher education sector.

Discussions focused on faculty and student exchanges, improvements in teaching and learning, interdisciplinary research and the development of stronger institutional partnerships.

The NUST rector expressed the university’s willingness to support higher education institutions across the country and welcomed continued collaboration through initiatives facilitated by the HEC.

The visit was part of NAHE’s “Strategic Planning and Leadership Excellence” programme, aimed at strengthening leadership and institutional management capacity among senior officials of Pakistan’s public-sector universities.
