ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a Tamgha-e-Khidmat and a Rs10 million cash reward for nurse Razia Noreen, who risked her life to rescue a newborn during a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The prime minister met Razia Noreen at the Prime Minister’s House and praised her bravery during the hospital fire. Health Minister Mustafa Kamal and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar were also present at the meeting.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said Razia’s courage would be remembered as an example of national service. He announced that she would receive the Tamgha-e-Khidmat on March 23, along with the Rs10 million reward.
During the meeting, Noreen recounted her experience during the PIMS fire, saying she wanted to rescue the other babies as well but could not do so. She said that after returning from saving one baby, a blast occurred and darkness spread through the area.
The nurse also praised her fellow nurses, saying they had made significant efforts during the incident and deserved recognition for their work.
The government’s decision recognizes Noreen’s actions during the emergency and highlights the role of healthcare workers in protecting patients during life-threatening situations.
