The National Logistics Corporation has ensured uninterrupted trade operations through the Khunjerab Pass for the second consecutive year, setting a strong example of national service and operational excellence in one of the world’s most challenging terrains.
Despite extreme winter conditions and repeated snowfall, NLC Dry Port Sost has remained fully functional, enabling continuous import and export movement between Pakistan, China and Central Asian states. The sustained operations highlight NLC’s resilience and preparedness in maintaining all-weather trade connectivity.

To ensure smooth trade flow, NLC has made major investments in modern infrastructure at the port, including advanced cargo scanners, weighbridges, expanded warehousing, and upgraded handling facilities. These improvements have significantly enhanced efficiency and reduced delays during peak winter months.
As a result, trade volumes have shown a marked increase. In December alone, Dry Port Sost handled around 12,000 metric tons of import and export cargo. During the first two weeks of January 2026, an additional 11,000 metric tons of cargo were processed, along with the clearance of 132 empty containers arriving from China.
Further strengthening regional trade integration, NLC has partnered with Chinese freight operators to establish a joint logistics company aimed at facilitating forward transit trade with China and Central Asian countries. The initiative has streamlined cross-border logistics and improved overall supply chain efficiency.
Beyond trade facilitation, Dry Port Sost has emerged as a sustainable source of employment for local communities, contributing to livelihoods and socio-economic development in Gilgit-Baltistan. The port’s uninterrupted winter operations have not only reinforced Pakistan-China trade ties but have also triggered a new phase of economic activity across the region.
