MULTAN, October 1, 2026: More than 150 medical devices at Nishtar Hospital Multan have been declared unserviceable, including X-ray machines, ultrasound equipment, ECG machines, cardiac monitors and other medical devices.
Hospital authorities have started the process of auctioning the outdated equipment while preparations are also underway to purchase new machinery.
According to details, a list of the hospital’s old equipment has been prepared and the machines have been divided into different lots for auction. The auction process for more than 150 items has already begun.
The equipment declared unserviceable includes cardiac monitors, nebulizers, suction machines, weighing machines and other medical devices.
Officials said some of the equipment is several years old, while spare parts for a number of machines are no longer available. In some cases, the cost of repairs and replacement parts has also become too high to justify continued maintenance.
New Equipment Planned
Hospital authorities plan to remove the obsolete machinery and purchase new equipment to replace it.
The unavailability of functional medical equipment has reportedly created difficulties for patients seeking treatment at the hospital.
According to a hospital spokesperson, machines are declared unserviceable only after going through a formal assessment process conducted by a 10-member committee.
The committee includes doctors at professor and senior levels, nursing officials and storekeepers. The committee evaluates the condition of the equipment, its remaining serviceability, repair costs and availability of spare parts before recommending that it be declared unserviceable.
The hospital is now moving ahead with the disposal of the old equipment and the procurement process for replacement machinery.
