KARACHI: Pakistani actress and television host Nida Yasir has advised women and young girls not to feel pressured to buy new clothes for every event, suggesting that existing outfits can be restyled and worn again.
In a video circulating on social media, Nida shared her views on fashion, spending and making better use of clothes already available in one’s wardrobe.
She said women do not need to put pressure on their parents or husbands to buy a new outfit for every occasion. While purchasing new clothes occasionally is fine, she stressed that wearing a new outfit at every event is not necessary.
Nida also encouraged women to wear clothes already sitting in their wardrobes. She noted that many people avoid repeating an outfit after posting pictures in it on social media because they feel they cannot wear it again.
According to Nida, times have changed and there is no reason to avoid repeating clothes simply because they have already appeared on social media.
She suggested that if someone does not want to wear an old outfit in its original form, it can be redesigned or restyled to give it a fresh look.
Nida also praised people who practice thrift and said she personally appreciates those who make practical use of what they already have.
Sharing an example from her own life, Nida said she is approaching her 25th wedding anniversary and recalled that she bought furniture after getting married. Because the furniture was made from strong, high-quality wood, she has repeatedly had it redesigned in different styles rather than replacing it.
Her comments have sparked discussion on social media about sustainable fashion, mindful spending and the growing trend of restyling and reusing clothes.
