DIR: Junaid Ali Shah has officially assumed charge as Assistant Director, Industries, Commerce and Consumer Protection Council for the districts of Upper Dir and Lower Dir, pledging to strengthen consumer rights and improve public access to grievance redressal.
In his first statement after taking office, Shah said protecting consumers and resolving public complaints related to pricing, product quality and service delivery would be among his top priorities.
Consumers encouraged to report complaints
Shah said residents of Upper Dir and Lower Dir can now directly approach the Consumer Protection Council to register complaints.
Consumers may submit written complaints by visiting the department’s office or contact the council through its official landline to report issues requiring official action.
Open courts and market inspections planned
To improve public access to government services, Shah announced that Khuli Kachehries (Open Courts) will soon be held across different areas of both districts.
The initiative is aimed at hearing public grievances directly and resolving complaints at the local level.
He also announced regular inspections of markets dealing in food items and essential commodities to monitor compliance with consumer protection regulations.
Focus on pricing and consumer rights
According to Shah, inspections will focus on ensuring the display of official price lists, preventing overcharging and enforcing consumer protection laws.
He said the department would prioritize the availability of quality goods, safeguard consumer rights and work to provide timely relief to the public.
“Do not remain silent if you face any problem. Contact the relevant department immediately so your complaint can be addressed without delay,” Shah said.
He added that the department would work closely with traders’ associations, civil society organizations and the local administration to promote transparency, accountability and fair market practices across both districts.
