Karachi— In a sweeping revision with wide-ranging implications, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued its final decision on the review motions concerning K-Electric’s Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) for the FY 2024–2030 control period.
Multiple KE Operations Affected by Regulatory Overhaul
The ruling affects multiple facets of KE’s operations, including its Generation Power Plants, Transmission and Distribution networks, Supply business, and investment and loss recovery plans. While NEPRA upheld its earlier stance on KE’s write-off claims for MYT 2017–2023, it significantly altered other determinations—prompting KE to warn of unsustainable outcomes for the company and its stakeholders.
Tariff Cut Sparks Concern Over Financial Viability
One of the most consequential changes is the reduction of the average consumer tariff from PKR 39.97/KWh (announced on May 27, 2025) to PKR 32.37/KWh. This revision, while potentially beneficial for consumers, raises concerns about KE’s financial viability and future investment capacity.
KE Signals Legal Review and Regulatory Pushback
K-Electric has stated it is reviewing the decision in detail and intends to pursue all remedies available under the law and regulatory framework.
