LOWER DIR: The Movement to Protect the Constitution of Pakistan has called for an independent investigation into the recent anti-terrorism operation in Lower Dir, alleging that administrative failures contributed to police casualties during the operation.
Speaking at a press conference in Timergara, the movement’s central spokesperson, Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai, criticized the handling of the operation and urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to conduct a transparent inquiry and hold those responsible accountable. The claims reflect the organization’s position and have not been independently verified.
Calls for Inquiry Into Police Losses
Yousafzai said the recent operation against militants resulted in significant loss of life and injuries among police personnel. He alleged that poor planning and administrative negligence by local authorities contributed to the outcome.
He called on the provincial government to investigate the incident and, if responsibility is established, take action against the relevant district officials.
The press conference was also attended by Ali Shah Mashwani, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Accountability Committee, along with local party leaders and workers.
Demand for Better Equipment
Yousafzai said police officers fighting militant groups should be provided with modern weapons, protective gear, and other operational resources.
He argued that security personnel cannot effectively confront heavily armed militants without adequate equipment and logistical support.
Criticism of Chief Minister’s Visit
The movement also criticized the recent visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to Dir, saying local residents had expected greater support for the families of police personnel killed or injured during the operation.
Yousafzai claimed the visit did not include meetings with the families of the deceased or announcements of a special relief package for affected personnel.
Appeal for Political Leadership
Ali Shah Mashwani urged elected representatives from Lower Dir to engage more actively with local communities and address public concerns regarding the security situation.
He said security lapses in the recent Laram incident should be thoroughly investigated and called for practical measures to address militancy rather than limiting responses to public statements.
The speakers reiterated their support for efforts to restore lasting peace in the region and said local communities remain committed to cooperating in the fight against terrorism.
