Militant Attack on Upper Dir Border Checkpost

UPPER DIR: Security forces repelled a militant attack on the Shaltalo Barawal Checkpost near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Upper Dir late Thursday night, leaving one police officer injured, officials said.

According to police, personnel stationed at the checkpost, supported by local residents, responded to the attack, forcing the assailants to retreat. A search operation has since been launched to locate those involved and secure the area.

Policeman Injured During Exchange of Fire

Police sources said the attackers opened fire on the Shaltalo Barawal Checkpost, triggering an exchange of gunfire.

One police official was injured in the incident and was taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Dir for treatment. Authorities said the officer is in stable condition.

Joint Search Operation Underway

District Police Officer (DPO) Aslam Nawaz visited the sensitive border checkposts at Shaltalo and Nasrat Darra to review the ongoing Search and Strike Operation.

The operation is being conducted jointly by Dir Police, Dir Scouts, Elite Force, Rapid Response Force (RRF), Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and the Bomb Disposal Squad, with assistance from local residents.

Officials said thermal imaging equipment, drone surveillance, and armored vehicles are being used to monitor the mountainous border region and support the operation.

DPO Meets Security Personnel and Community Leaders

During his visit, DPO Aslam Nawaz commended security personnel for their professionalism and coordination, reaffirming the police’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining law and order.

He said operations against militant groups would continue until peace is fully restored in the area.

The DPO also met local elders and tribal representatives to discuss the security situation, intelligence sharing, and ways to strengthen cooperation between the community and law enforcement.

According to police, community leaders expressed support for the security forces and pledged continued cooperation to help maintain peace and stability in the region.
