Messi Misses Again as Inter Miami Suffer 4-1 Defeat

2 Min Read

Lionel Messi endured another difficult night as Inter Miami suffered a 4-1 defeat to Nashville SC in Major League Soccer, with the Argentine star missing a penalty for the third consecutive time.

Messi had an opportunity to bring Inter Miami level from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute, but Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake saved his effort. A follow-up goal was later ruled out for encroachment.

The missed penalty extended an unusual run of poor results for Messi from the spot. He had also failed to convert penalties during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making this his third consecutive penalty miss.

Despite Messi’s setback, Inter Miami briefly levelled before Nashville took control after the break. Hany Mukhtar scored twice, while Sam Surridge and Andy Nájar were also on the scoresheet as Nashville secured a convincing 4-1 victory.

Messi also received a yellow card during the match and was unable to prevent Inter Miami from suffering their third consecutive defeat. The result further widened the gap between Nashville and Miami in the Eastern Conference.

The difficult period comes after the recent death of Messi’s father, while questions about the veteran forward’s long-term career plans have also continued to attract attention. However, his future plans remain a separate issue from the team’s latest defeat.
