Mardan Sikh Couple Murder Case: Suspect Arrested Within 24 Hours, Says KP Minister

Provincial Minister for Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Adnan Qadri has said that the suspect involved in the killing of a Sikh couple at Babu Mohallah Gurdwara in Mardan was arrested within 24 hours of the incident.

Addressing a press conference at the DPO Office in Mardan after visiting the gurdwara and meeting the bereaved family, the minister said the provincial government would not protect any accused, regardless of religion or background, and that “a crime is a crime” wherever it occurs.

The minister announced financial assistance of Rs2 million for the affected family and Rs4 million for the repair and restoration of Babu Mohallah Gurdwara. Senior officials including police and district administration representatives were also present on the occasion.

He praised Mardan Police for their swift investigation and arrest of the suspect, stating that law enforcement agencies had acted promptly to bring the case under control.

Adnan Qadri also said that such incidents should not be politicised, adding that efforts must be focused on maintaining social harmony and ensuring equal protection of law for all citizens.

He further referred to past incidents in other regions, arguing that accountability and legal action should be consistent across the country, regardless of political or provincial context.
