MARDAN (Khurshid Wahab): Commissioner Mardan Division Syed Muhammad Ali Shah has directed the concerned authorities to make all slaughterhouses across Mardan Division fully operational by next Monday and ensure the availability of essential facilities, particularly proper sanitation and cleanliness.

The commissioner issued the directives during a visit to a slaughterhouse in Mardan, where he inspected cleanliness arrangements, available facilities and slaughtering procedures. The Assistant Commissioner Mardan, officials of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and Livestock Department, representatives of the Butchers Association and local elders were also present.

Officials briefed the commissioner on the existing condition of slaughterhouses in Mardan and related matters.

Syed Muhammad Ali Shah directed that proper slaughtering procedures be implemented at all slaughterhouses from next Monday, with animals slaughtered under the supervision of veterinary doctors. He also ordered that meat inspection and the application of official verification stamps be carried out in the presence of veterinary doctors.

The commissioner directed authorities to prevent the transportation and sale of meat without official verification stamps from next week. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found selling meat without the required stamp.

He said providing the public with quality, hygienic and safe meat was among the government’s priorities and stressed the need to strengthen meat inspection procedures and ensure effective implementation of the official stamping system.

The commissioner also directed authorities to maintain strict vigilance against counterfeit verification stamps and take stringent action against those involved in the practice.

He further instructed the relevant departments to take measures to increase the number of slaughterhouses in Mardan so that animal slaughtering could be brought under a properly regulated system and the transportation and sale of meat without official verification could be effectively prevented.

Syed Muhammad Ali Shah also ordered the timely and proper disposal of animal waste to prevent foul odours, unhygienic conditions and other environmental problems for residents.

He emphasised that the relevant departments must ensure effective monitoring of slaughterhouse cleanliness, meat quality inspections and compliance with hygiene standards.
