The Armed Forces of Pakistan on Friday commemorated the 61st martyrdom anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, paying tribute to his courage, leadership and supreme sacrifice during the 1965 War.
Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed defended the Burki sector near Lahore for five days and nights amid repeated enemy assaults. His resistance helped halt the advance and established his place among Pakistan’s most honored military figures.
Tribute to a 1965 War Hero
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces; Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff; Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff; and General Syed Aamer Raza, Commander National Strategic Command, commemorated the anniversary on behalf of the armed forces.
The statement highlighted Major Bhatti’s determination, leadership and devotion to duty during the defence of the Burki sector.
Major Aziz Bhatti was awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military award for valor, for his service and sacrifice during the 1965 conflict.
Legacy of Courage and Sacrifice
The ISPR said his courage and selfless devotion to duty continue to serve as an inspiration for generations of Pakistanis and members of the armed forces.
The armed forces also reaffirmed their commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and security, citing the same spirit of courage, determination and sacrifice associated with Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed.
