LAHORE, October 30, 2026: Rising smog and worsening air pollution in Lahore have raised serious concerns about the health of millions of schoolchildren, prompting questions over whether the Punjab government may order educational institutions to close.

According to ARY News, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 358 at 8am, placing the city in a hazardous pollution category. The concentration of fine particulate matter in the air was reported at 254 micrograms per cubic metre, highlighting the severity of the pollution.

At the time of reporting, Lahore had ranked among the world’s most polluted cities, with the deteriorating air quality increasing concerns about respiratory illnesses and other health complications, particularly among children.

Parents Concerned About Children’s Health

Parents have expressed concern that daily travel to and from school in heavily polluted conditions could expose children to respiratory problems and other health risks.

Medical experts have advised people to take precautionary measures and use protective masks to reduce exposure to polluted air.

Will Schools Close in Lahore?

Despite the worsening smog, no official announcement regarding school closures or changes to educational activities had been issued at the time of reporting.

Authorities may consider closing educational institutions or revising school timings if air pollution levels fail to improve, with children’s health and safety remaining a key concern.

For now, parents, students and school administrations are awaiting an official decision from the relevant authorities.

Any school closure or change in timings should be confirmed through official government announcements rather than unverified social media reports.
