LAHORE — The Lahore Science Mela 2025 concluded with overwhelming public enthusiasm, drawing more than 100,000 visitors to Crescent Model Higher Secondary School over two vibrant days of science exhibitions, interactive displays, and educational activities. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), a leading participant, used the platform to showcase its contributions to energy, agriculture, health, and minerals — and called for similar festivals to be held across Pakistan.

Dr. Rashid Mahmood, spokesperson for PAEC, praised the massive turnout and emphasized the importance of expanding such initiatives. “In order to keep the spirit of curiosity alive in youth, we should launch interactive and useful science festivals all over Pakistan, especially in Islamabad,” he said. He added that events like Lahore Science Mela 2025 ignite curiosity, foster a love for scientific research, and quench the thirst of young minds eager to learn.

PAEC’s pavilion featured a wide array of innovations, including radiopharmaceutical kits for cancer diagnosis developed by the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), a model of a nuclear power plant, indigenously developed vaccines, and products from the agriculture and minerals sectors. Visitors were particularly drawn to the engaging displays and hands-on demonstrations.

A highlight of the mela was the presence of Pakistan’s champions from the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) 2025, trained by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), PAEC’s premier engineering university. Their achievements inspired young students and underscored the importance of nurturing scientific talent.

Organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS), Lahore Science Mela 2025 offered a dynamic mix of attractions, including a planetarium, laser demonstrations, the popular ‘Surpriseum’, indoor games, workshops, and auditorium talks. The event was designed to make science accessible and exciting for families, especially youth.

PAEC reaffirmed its commitment to public science outreach and innovation, continuing its tradition of leadership in national science education. The success of Lahore Science Mela 2025 has sparked calls for similar events in other cities, aiming to build a culture of curiosity and scientific engagement across Pakistan.
