LAHORE: Judicial officers in Lahore have been barred from displaying green registration plates, government markings or blue emergency lights on privately owned vehicles after monetisation, under an order issued by the District and Sessions Judge Lahore.
District and Sessions Judge Tariq Khursheed Khawaja directed judicial officers not to make monetised vehicles appear to be official government vehicles. The order states that once a vehicle has been monetised, it will be treated as a private vehicle for all purposes.
Government markings prohibited
Under the directive, judicial officers cannot use green registration plates or other plates that identify a vehicle as a government vehicle.
They have also been prohibited from displaying the Lahore High Court or Punjab District Judiciary’s monogram, logo, seal, sticker or badge on their vehicles. Government symbols, flags and wording indicating an official designation or judicial position are also prohibited.
The directive further states that monetised vehicles must not carry any feature that could create the impression that they are official government vehicles.
Blue lights and flashers also banned
The order prohibits the installation of blue lights, beacons, rotating lights or flashers on monetised vehicles.
Keeping a blue light or emergency light inside the vehicle is also prohibited under the directive.
The judge observed that some vehicles appeared to give the impression of being government vehicles after monetisation, prompting the issuance of the instructions.
Violations to be reported
The District and Sessions Judge Lahore directed that any violation should be treated seriously. If a judicial officer is found breaching the instructions, the matter will be reported to the relevant authority.
The order has been circulated among all judicial officers in Lahore.
