The Lahore High Court has sought a response from police in a case involving a man accused of abduction after marrying a woman he reportedly met through the online game PUBG.
The development came during proceedings on a post-arrest bail petition filed by the accused, identified as عثمان (Usman), who is currently facing charges in an abduction case registered following the marriage.
The petition was heard by Justice Shahbaz Rizvi. Counsel for the petitioner told the court that the friendship between the man and woman began through PUBG and later led to a marriage based on mutual consent.
Defence challenges allegations
According to the defence lawyer, the woman’s parents opposed the marriage and subsequently filed an abduction case against the accused.
The lawyer argued that the complainants allegedly pressured the woman into giving a statement against her husband and maintained that the charges of abduction and sexual assault included in the case are false and without merit.
The court was also informed that the petitioner has been in custody for the past five months and requested that he be granted bail.
Court issues notice to police
After hearing the initial arguments, the Lahore High Court issued a notice to the police and directed authorities to submit a detailed response at the next hearing.
The court adjourned further proceedings until a later date.
The allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial review, and the case is currently under legal consideration.
