KPCPWC hosts Eid celebration for vulnerable children in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, March 16 : The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Commission (KPCPWC), with support from UNICEF Pakistan, organized a special Eid celebration for vulnerable and deserving children at its provincial office in Peshawar on Monday.

More than 200 children attended the event, including boys and girls from Zamung Kor Model Institute for State Children, Angel Home and the Special Education Complex. The initiative aimed to share the spirit of Eid and provide a joyful experience for children from vulnerable backgrounds.

Additional Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Umarah Khan attended the event as chief guest. The ceremony was also attended by Chief Child Protection Officer Ijaz Muhammad Khan, UNICEF Pakistan Child Protection Officer Bushra Ajmal, and representatives of participating child welfare institutions.

Focus on child protection and inclusion

Speaking at the event, Ijaz Muhammad Khan highlighted the commission’s efforts to strengthen child protection mechanisms and create a safer environment for children in care institutions.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government departments, civil society organizations and development partners to improve child welfare and protection systems.

Bushra Ajmal appreciated the initiative and reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to supporting the wellbeing and protection of children. Umarah Khan also stressed the importance of such activities in promoting compassion, inclusion and community support for vulnerable children.

Children participate in performances

During the event, children presented stage performances highlighting themes related to child protection. The celebration also included the distribution of Eid gifts among the participating children.

According to organizers, Eid gifts were also provided to displaced families affected by the ongoing security situation through the Noor Education Foundation.

The event concluded with group photographs and informal interactions between the children and guests, reflecting joint efforts by government institutions and partners to support and encourage vulnerable children during the festive occasion.
