Peshawar: Information Counsel Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Advocate Muhammad Ali Saif said on Friday that the province is awaiting the federal government’s response on proposals to legalize non-paid vehicles (NCP). In a statement issued to the media, he said that the issue of regularization of NCP vehicles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is awaiting the decision of the federal government, adding that once the proposals forwarded by the KP government are approved, the work of regularization of NCP vehicles will begin in the province. Saif further said that there is evidence that NCP vehicles were also used in terrorist activities, adding that by registering these vehicles, the owner of the vehicle used for subversive activities can be easily identified. Registration of these vehicles, he added, will also generate substantial revenue for the provincial government. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur approved proposals to regularize NCP vehicles before sending them to the Center for approval. Barrister Saif informed that the KP government has proposed to legalize more than 0.2 million NCP vehicles plying on the roads in the merged districts and Malakand division. In addition, he said the provincial government has also come up with proposals to deregulate stolen and tampered vehicles. Talking about the proposals and published documents regarding the registration of such vehicles, he said that the owner of an 800 CC taxable vehicle will have to pay Rs 100,000 for registration, while the amount for an unregistered owner was Rs 150,000. Similarly, he said that for a vehicle with a 2,500 CC engine, a file owner had to pay Rs 700,000, while a non-filer had to pay Rs one million. The document proposed a registration fee of Rs 15,000 for up to 800 CC vehicles, while the registration fee of a 2500 CC vehicle was Rs 100,000, he added.
