Kot Addu Canal Tragedy: 6 Dead, 9 Children Missing

KOT ADDU: The death toll has risen to six after a rickshaw carrying wedding guests fell into the Muzaffargarh Canal in Punjab’s Kot Addu district, rescue officials said.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of three more people from the canal, bringing the total number of fatalities in the accident to six. The deceased include women and children.

According to Rescue officials, a search operation is underway for nine children who remain missing following the accident. The missing children are reportedly between three and 14 years old.

Rescue teams have so far managed to save 11 people from the canal, officials said.

The accident occurred when the rickshaw carrying members of a wedding party lost control and plunged into the canal. Rescue personnel continue to search the waterway for the missing children.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of passengers travelling in overloaded vehicles, particularly during wedding gatherings and other large family events.
