Astana offers to host negotiations as FM Kosherbayev stresses urgent need to de-escalate Middle East tensions
Astana — April 4, 2026: Kazakhstan has expressed support for the joint China-Pakistan initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Middle East, as Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev met ambassadors from Gulf states and Jordan to discuss the worsening regional situation.
During the meeting in Astana, the Kazakh foreign minister highlighted the importance of reducing tensions and promoting political dialogue, welcoming efforts by Gulf leaders to de-escalate the crisis.
Kosherbayev voiced serious concern over the ongoing escalation, including reported strikes on friendly Arab countries, and stressed the urgent need for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
“The continuation of military actions is resulting in civilian casualties and causing significant damage to critical infrastructure,” he said, emphasizing the humanitarian impact of the conflict.
He also thanked the diplomats for their assistance in facilitating the evacuation and safe return of Kazakh citizens from affected areas.
Reaffirming Kazakhstan’s diplomatic stance, the minister said Astana supports both regional peace efforts and the China-Pakistan initiative, adding that Kazakhstan is ready to provide a platform for negotiations in the city of Turkestan.
The visiting Arab envoys, in turn, underscored the importance of coordinated international efforts to ensure regional security. They expressed readiness to strengthen engagement with Kazakhstan and expand cooperation in political dialogue and joint initiatives.
The meeting comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with global and regional powers intensifying diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and promote a negotiated settlement.
