Police have arrested two girls for allegedly throwing acid on a young man in Kasur, in a case investigators say involves claims of personal dispute, harassment and alleged revenge.
According to police, one of the suspects allegedly called the young man and asked him to accompany her on a motorcycle toward Rangpur village. When they reached a deserted area, the girl sitting behind him allegedly took out a bottle of acid from her purse, threw it on him and fled.
The victim, who had been living in Malaysia for work and returned to Pakistan about one-and-a-half months ago, filed an FIR at Saddar Kasur Police Station.
In his complaint, the young man said he was travelling with friends on two motorcycles when another motorcycle appeared near Rangpur carrying the suspect and an unidentified person. He alleged that the suspect threw acid on his head, face and eyes, causing blurred vision.
He further alleged that after he fell from the motorcycle, the suspect took Rs60,000, documents and a half-tola gold chain from his pocket.
According to the FIR, doctors at Jinnah Hospital said the membrane of the victim’s eyes had been affected in the acid attack.
The victim alleged that the attack was carried out at the instigation of his former wife, whom he had divorced.
