KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Munim Zafar Khan has alleged that Karachi students faced discriminatory treatment during Sindh’s medical college admission test and called on the federal government to oversee the entire medical admissions process.
Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq in Karachi, Zafar said students in the city were facing difficulties in educational examinations and claimed that questions had been raised over the results of admission tests for public and private medical colleges in Sindh.
He said the success rate of students from some districts of interior Sindh appeared to be higher than that of Karachi students, adding that the disparity warranted scrutiny of the examination and admission system.
Zafar also questioned the arrangements made for candidates in Karachi. He said around 11,000 students in the city were provided only two examination centres, compared with six centres for 11,480 students in Lahore and 19 centres for around 16,000 students in Peshawar.
He questioned why examination centres could not have been established at the district level in Karachi, arguing that students should have been provided greater convenience rather than additional difficulties.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also criticised the Sindh government’s education policies, alleging that the province’s examination and testing system had created concerns among students and parents.
Citing results from an NED University test, Zafar claimed that students from interior Sindh had a success rate of around 24 to 26 percent, compared with approximately 66 percent among Karachi Board students. He said the figures raised broader questions about the treatment of students from different parts of the province.
Zafar called for greater transparency in medical admissions and urged the federal government to monitor the entire testing and admission process to ensure that students across Sindh are treated equally.
He said access to education should be based on transparent and fair procedures and should not be restricted to a limited group of students.
