Karachi police have reported important progress in the investigation into the abduction, sexual assault and murder of a three-year-old girl in Quaidabad, after forensic samples were collected from the victim’s clothing and body, police sources said.
The child, identified as Kulsoom, had gone missing from near her home before her body was later recovered in a sack with signs of violence. According to investigators, the post-mortem examination confirmed sexual assault, while further forensic and chemical reports are awaited.
Police sources said different human hair samples and DNA evidence were recovered during the post-mortem process and preserved for forensic analysis. Investigators are examining the evidence to determine whether more than one person was involved in the crime.
According to officials, marks of resistance were found on different parts of the child’s body. Police have detained several suspects during the investigation and are collecting blood and other samples for comparison with the forensic evidence.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility that someone known to the child may have been involved. Police said final conclusions will depend on the results of forensic and chemical analysis.
The case has sparked concern in the area, while authorities say the investigation is continuing from multiple angles to identify and arrest those responsible.
