Police have arrested a businessman who allegedly murdered an innocent man and placed his body inside a car in Surjani Town to stage his own death and escape creditors.
The prime suspect, identified as Zeeshan Naz, was arrested along with an alleged accomplice after investigators used biometric verification, technical evidence and human intelligence to unravel the case, according to SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastoi.
Police said Zeeshan had accumulated substantial debts and allegedly devised the murder plot to convince creditors and investigators that he was dead.
Burnt Body Initially Linked to Suspect
The case began when a partially burnt body was recovered from a vehicle in the Shah Baig Goth area of Surjani Town.
Documents, a mobile phone and the vehicle initially suggested that the deceased was Zeeshan. However, his relatives reportedly declined to identify the body as his and recognised only the belongings recovered from the scene.
Subsequent biometric and technical examination revealed that the body belonged to another person rather than the businessman initially presumed dead. Reports said the victim was a resident of Muzaffargarh, although police had not released complete details about his identity in the initial statement.
Suspect Changed Appearance to Avoid Arrest
SSP West said the prime suspect had altered his appearance and gone into hiding after allegedly executing the plan.
Police eventually located and arrested him on the basis of technical surveillance and human intelligence. His alleged accomplice was also taken into custody.
Investigators believe the victim was deliberately killed so that his body could be passed off as Zeeshan’s and the staged death could appear credible.
The allegations remain subject to further investigation and court proceedings, and police have not yet disclosed the complete sequence of events or the specific role attributed to each suspect.
Interrogation Underway
Police said the arrested suspects were being questioned and further information would be released as the investigation progressed.
Investigators are expected to determine how the victim was approached, the precise cause and location of the killing, how the vehicle and personal belongings were arranged, and whether any additional individuals helped execute the alleged plot.
