Dhudial: Journalists’ nationwide protest against the approval of the PECA law continues. The leaders of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) have stated that PECA is a black law aimed at silencing journalists and restricting freedom of expression. They have vowed to continue their protest until the law is repealed.
In anticipation of possible protests, RIUJ Chakwal/Talagang Unit President Muhammad Riaz Anjum, along with Information Secretary Raja Saqib Abbas and member Masood Kahout, met with prominent legal figures, including Haroon Irshad Janjua, President of the Chakwal Bar, Kashif Irshad Janjua, General Secretary of the Chakwal Bar, and Chaudhry Tanveer Iqbal. They invited them to participate in the protest, and the legal leaders condemned the approval of the PECA law, assuring their participation in the demonstration.
On this occasion, Muhammad Riaz Anjum also contacted Punjab Bar Council member Ashfaq Kahout, who also confirmed his participation in the potential protest.
Muhammad Riaz Anjum stated that the office bearers and members of the RIUJ Chakwal/Talagang Unit are fully prepared and determined to respond to any call from their central leaders for protest. Additionally, invitations will be extended to key journalistic figures, opposition parties, business organizations, and social personalities who support media freedom to join the protest.
