Abbottabad The Central Nazima of Islami Jamiat Talibat Pakistan, Ayesha Rizwan, has stated that the ban imposed on student unions on February 9, 1984, is one of the worst acts by the government. The consequences of banning student unions during General Zia-ul-Haq’s era are evident today, forty years later, in the form of intolerance in the political sphere, abusive language in assemblies, and widespread disorder in the country.
She expressed these views in a message released to the media. Ayesha Rizwan emphasized that the ban on student unions is unconstitutional and undemocratic. Student unions provide society with experienced young leaders who become familiar with the complexities of politics for the future. For several years, there have been circulating reports of partial restoration of unions, yet no concrete steps have been taken.
Islami Jamiat Talibat urges the Government of Pakistan to take responsible action in fully restoring student unions and protecting student rights.
