Islamabad Capital Police and Islamabad Traffic Police have received an additional fleet of BYD electric vehicles as part of their ongoing fleet electrification programme.

The vehicles were delivered by Mega Motor Company, the official partner of BYD in Pakistan. The expansion builds on the departments’ earlier adoption of electric vehicles and supports the federal capital’s sustainability and green mobility goals.

The handover ceremony was attended by senior BYD leadership from China, including Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Company Limited and General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division; Ketsu Zhang, Deputy General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division; Lei Jian, Country Head BYD Pakistan; and Danish Khaliq, Vice President Sales and Strategy at Mega Motor Company.

Senior officials from Islamabad Capital Police were also present, including Muhammad Haroon Joya, Director General Safe City and DIG Traffic, and Kainat Azhar Khan, Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad.

Speaking on the occasion, DIG Traffic Muhammad Haroon Joya said Islamabad Police had started the transition to electric vehicles in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for green mobility adoption. He said the force aimed to gradually shift its entire fleet towards cleaner and more sustainable transport solutions.

Chief Traffic Officer Kainat Azhar Khan said the latest delivery reflected Islamabad Traffic Police’s continued commitment to modernising its fleet. She said the electric vehicles would help meet operational mobility needs while reducing fuel consumption, lowering running costs and supporting a cleaner environment.

BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang said the continued adoption of electric vehicles by public-sector departments showed leadership in building efficient and future-ready public service operations. He said electric mobility would play an increasingly important role as Pakistan works to reduce dependence on imported petroleum products and protect the environment.

Danish Khaliq of Mega Motor Company said the collaboration between Islamabad Police and BYD reflected growing confidence in new energy vehicle technology and highlighted the operational and environmental benefits of electric mobility.

Public-sector institutions in Pakistan are increasingly exploring electric vehicles following the prime minister’s directive to accelerate EV adoption, reduce fuel costs, improve energy security and promote environmental protection.
